How would where the Mayans settle effect the resource they had?
The location of the Mayan Civilization affected the resources they had in multiple ways. The Mayans settled in Mexico, Guatemala, Northern Belize, Western Honduras and Chiapas. They're near high volcanic mountains an area where it’s very humid and was covered in forest. "In these locations they would use obsidian for knives and spears. They use volcanic tuff (a type of rock with volcanic ash from eruption) for building and they use iron pyrite for mirrors." from the book titled The Ancient World The Mayans by Pamela Oijk. These resources cannot always be found anywhere else.
As well, the Mayans location gave them a bigger variety of plants as resources. Since the Mayans were in a forestry, tropical area to be able to grow crop they'd have to clear the forest with a technique called Slash-and-burn farming which is when the Mayans would use an axe as well as fire and burn the forest. Before they would clear the forest they would pray with flowers and candles. The minds would hunt many different kinds of animals. Some animals that they would catch where "…monkeys, dogs, turtles, bunnies, and frogs." Sated by the E-Book Maya. Also some other food they would find in the forest are pears, avocados, and corn.
